New York, NY — Yesterday, President Trump called on his supporters to “cheat like hell” in the upcoming midterm elections during the Republican National Convention in Dallas, Texas. Below is a statement from Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation, responding to the news.
“For years, the Trump administration has been pushing policies to restrict voters’ ability to participate in the elections driven by baseless fraud claims and conspiracy theories. Since his second term, the administration has heightened their efforts to stymie the vote, with an emphasis on the 2026 midterm elections.”
“This week in Dallas, the same president claiming to protect our elections stood on stage and led his own supporters in a pledge to ‘cheat like hell.’ The President’s call for his followers to commit election fraud confirms that he is not interested in protecting our democracy. His crusade to curtail voting rights has always been about targeting historically disenfranchised communities and blocking our right to vote.“
“A president who tells his supporters to cheat while simultaneously making unfounded accusations that those who do not agree with his policies are committing voter of fraud is an attack on the legitimacy of every American’s vote. This is particularly true for Black and Latino voters who are disproportionately targeted by these claims.”
“Unlike the president’s, our pledge is to continue providing accurate voter information to everyone who is eligible to participate in this year’s midterms. We urge all eligible Americans to register or verify their voter registration status. Vote early or show up on November 3rd. Our democracy depends on it!”
