New York, NY – Yesterday, a shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, killed three children and a teacher and left at least two others fighting for their lives. Hispanic Federation joins the Central Oregon community in mourning those lost and renews its call for meaningful action to prevent gun violence. Below is a statement from Jessica Orozco Guttlein, Senior Vice President of Policy and Communications for Hispanic Federation.
“We are heartbroken. Again. To the families in Bend: we see you, we mourn with you, and we will not look away. Yesterday, three children and a teacher were killed at Silver Rail Elementary School in Oregon. At least two more people are fighting for their lives. Once again, families are left inconsolable, and classrooms have become crime scenes. The trauma of another senseless act of gun violence reverberates another community forever.
Hispanic Federation joins the Central Oregon community in mourning and in outrage. We demand real action to prevent gun violence— action that matches the scale of this grief.”
