About 60 community partners attended the afternoon conversation at Hispanic Federation’s New York office to mark the close of Hispanic Heritage Month
New York, NY – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani visited Hispanic Federation’s office today for a fireside chat with Frankie Miranda, HF President and CEO, and Executive Directors from community organizations from across New York, to discuss the most pressing issues facing New Yorkers and the city’s Latino communities. About 60 community partners attended, representing organizations that serve Latino families across the five boroughs. Photos from the event can be seen here.
The conversation ranged from immigration enforcement, community safety, affordability, health care access, economic opportunity, and education. The event reflected Hispanic Federation’s commitment to keeping open, direct lines of communication between community leaders and the elected officials who represent them.
“Since before taking office, Mayor Mamdani has engaged in meaningful conversations with us and our partners on the issues impacting the Latino community. We are grateful that he has returned during Hispanic Heritage Month to continue the dialogue,” said Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation. “Our communities are facing enormous challenges, and they deserve to be heard by the people making decisions that shape their lives. Here in New York, our mayor is leading by example by maintaining strong channels of communication and making sure that policies reflect the real experiences of Latino families. Conversations like this one are how we build a city that works for all New Yorkers. I am eager to see how more elected officials adopt a similar approach to the Latino community.”
“New York would not be the great city it is today without Latino New Yorkers. They drive our trains and buses, care for patients in our hospitals, and make the music and food that make this city the envy of the world. But too many families have been shut out of that greatness by the cost of living, discrimination, and the fear of ICE. As Mayor, I want every Latino New Yorker to have the chance to live with dignity, and today’s conversation was about how we make that possible together,” said Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
