Free information to help prepare for outages, save money through energy efficiency, and stay resilient through every storm
What is the Solar Education Program?
The Hispanic Federation’s Solar Education program was created for the beneficiaries of the US Department of Energy’s Solar Access Program, which offers free education such as workshops and printed materials on energy efficiency as well as the use and management of solar systems. Although the program is currently paused due to lack of funding, all of the free resources remain available here for you to use.
How Can I Learn about Solar Power Now?
You can find all of the program’s free educational content, such as videos and tipsheets, linked from this website. You can also sign up for email or text updates that will include new tips and information.

Puerto Rico’s Electrical System
Puerto Rico’s electrical system is organized into four main areas: generation, substation, transmission, and distribution. Currently, it operates as a centralized system, meaning that most of the energy is produced in large generating plants and shipped throughout the island.
Understanding the Energy In My Home
A home’s electrical system is critical to the day-to-day functioning of families. From turning on lights to running appliances, electricity plays a crucial role in our everyday lives. Homes are also part of the country’s electrical system, the system in your home connects the power grid to the sources that power your appliances.
What is a Solar Energy System?
A solar system is a series of components designed to capture the sun’s energy and convert it into electrical energy. This system includes several key elements that work together to provide power to homes.
Net Metering Program
Net metering is a program that allows people who generate their own electricity with solar panels to send excess unused energy back to the power grid, receiving a credit that can be applied to their energy bill payment (LUMA).
