The Latinidad Curriculum
Bringing Latino Stories to NYC Schools
Latinidad Curriculum
Shining a light on Latino leaders throughout history
More than 40 percent of New York City public school students are Latino – yet too many go through their entire education without ever encountering their history, culture, or community in the curriculum.
The Latinidad Curriculum Initiative is changing that. This cutting-edge, culturally responsive curriculum equips NYC teachers, school administrators, and community-based organizations with the tools to bring underrepresented Latino, Latina, and Latiné histories and cultures into the classroom. The curriculum is being developed by The Edmund W. Gordon Institute for Advanced Study at Teachers College, in partnership with Hispanic Federation and United Way of New York City, is funded by the New York City Council.

Hispanic Education Summit
Each year, our Hispanic Education Summit – the largest community-wide gathering focused on Latino education in New York City – brings together educators, parents, students, advocates, and policymakers to share best practices and demand the reforms our communities deserve. The insights and recommendations from that conversation directly shape our advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels.
The Latinidad Curriculum Initiative is the latest expression of this mission – a commitment to ensuring that Latino history and culture are not an afterthought in New York City classrooms, but a living, essential part of how every young person learns.
