WASHINGTON, D.C. / NEW YORK, NY – Today, Hispanic Federation, the nation’s largest Latino nonprofit umbrella organization representing over 850 community-based institutions in 43 states and territories, issued the following statement condemning President Donald Trump’s appointment of Stephen Miller as White House Chief of Staff.

President and CEO Frankie Miranda released the following statement:

“On Election Day, millions of Latino voters went to the polls to reject President Trump’s agenda and the architects behind it. From affordability to immigration, the American people sent an unmistakable message: this administration is failing our communities.

President Trump clearly refused to listen. Elevating Stephen Miller, the chief architect of the administration’s most brutal and divisive policies, to White House Chief of Staff is a direct affront to Latinos and the overwhelming majority of America’s electorate.

Few advisors have demonstrated such explicit, unyielding hostility toward immigrant and Latino communities. Miller has labeled immigrants as “invaders,” dismissed birthright citizenship as civilizational “suicide,” advocated for suspending constitutional rights, and championed systemic cruelty with disturbing zeal and delight. More than any other figure, he is responsible for unleashing violent havoc on American streets — deploying masked agents in unmarked vehicles to terrorize neighborhoods and tear families apart.

Through the People’s Hearings on Immigration Enforcement we’ve organized — from Minneapolis/St. Paul to San Antonio and Dallas, and from Los Angeles to New York and Charlotte to Chicago — we have heard direct, heartbreaking testimony of the pain, trauma, and civil rights abuses Miller’s policies have inflicted on our children and families every single day.

Hispanic Federation will not be silent. We will continue to stand on the front lines, fighting Miller’s racist, xenophobic agenda and advocating for the dignity, safety, and rights of our communities.

If President Trump refuses to heed the voters, the burden now falls squarely on Congress. It is time for lawmakers to fulfill their constitutional duty, exercise real oversight, and serve as the firm check needed to rein in an unhinged and hostile White House.”
