Hispanic Federation Applauds Governor Hochul’s Proposed NY Budget for Prioritizing the Safety, Rights, and Well Being of New Yorkers

Type(s): Press Release, Statement

New York, NYGov. Kathy Hochul announced a budget deal today that prioritizes the safety, rights, and well-being of New Yorkers. Below is a statement from Jessica Orozco Guttlein, Senior Vice President for Policy and Communications of Hispanic Federation, about the announcement.

“Governor Hochul announced a budget deal that upholds the rights of New Yorkers and confronts the everyday struggles that working people can no longer afford to ignore. Latino families have carried the weight of unaffordability in New York for too long, and this budget begins charting a concrete path toward a more affordable New York, with measures like universal childcare and lowering auto insurance premiums.

Governor Hochul sent a clear message that New York stands with immigrants. The sweeping protections against recent extreme and deadly Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions are a lifeline for communities living in fear. This budget reaffirms New York’s tradition of welcoming and defending everyone who calls this state home.

The first-in-the-nation crackdown on 3D-printed ghost guns is a landmark step towards the safe communities every family deserves.

Hispanic Federation applauds this progress and is eager to work alongside government and community partners to continue working towards a better New York for everyone.”
