HF and Telemundo Partner for DACA Day of Action!

In the slightly more than four years since President Obama announced the creation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, more than 700,000 undocumented immigrants have received relief. While the program only provides temporary relief from deportation for some immigrants, it has proven incredibly important to our undocumented youth. Hispanic Federation was a leading advocate for the creation and expansion of DACA and next week we will once again partner with Telemundo and a coalition of HF member agencies for a tri-state DACA Day of Action!

On October 20th and 21st, Telemundo will be promoting HF’s Linea Informativa hotline, 1-866-HF-AYUDA (1-866-432-9832). We will be ready to answer questions about DACA and refer callers to a full-day event on October 22nd at one of our three participating member agencies: La Casa de Don Pedro in Newark, NJ, Hispanic Center of Greater Danbury in Danbury, CT and Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights in New York, NY.

On October 22nd, those three agencies will be focusing all resources towards DACA. Anyone is free to walk through their doors and inquire about DACA, receive a DACA screening, and – if the applicant is ready – they can even fill out a DACA application that day!

“Like so many others, I have been terribly disappointed and frustrated by Washington’s inability to debate, let alone pass, comprehensive immigration reform,” said HF's Director of Immigration Fryda Guedes. “DACA isn’t a long-term solution to our broken immigration system but it is an important tool that not only helps keep immigrant families together, but deals fairly with undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States as children. There are many thousands of DACA-eligible immigrants and events such as the DACA Day of Action allows us to go out and find them and provide the relief they need.”
