Since 2017, Puerto Rico has been decimated by a host of natural disasters including Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, a swarm of earthquakes that began in late December 2019 with aftershocks that continue today,  and now COVID-19. The devastation caused by these disasters will be felt for years to come, but there is something we can all do to help.

In response, the Hispanic Federation (HF) launched the Unidos program, partnering with local organizations, individuals, businesses and foundations to address the multiple long-term needs of the island’s residents.

HF believes that local non-profit and community-based organizations are in the best position to steer the recovery and rebuilding of Puerto Rico. HF has committed $43 million to support over 130 local groups and initiatives across the island that are delivering ground-up, innovative projects – all built around long-term recovery, resiliency, sustainability, and increased self-sufficiency and community empowerment. The results of their efforts are already being felt in the communities they serve and with each new challenge they have proven they are better prepared to respond.

We have seen unprecedented support for the island’s recovery from individuals, corporations and foundations from around the world. The scale of disaster in Puerto Rico requires all our ongoing support for islanders and displaced families in what is unquestionably a long but hopeful journey towards a just recovery.
