Months before the midterm elections, Congress is trying to change our voting laws. Call your U.S. Senators today and tell them to protect your voting rights by voting “NO” on the Save America Act!
Last month, the House of Representatives passed the SAVE America Act and the Senate is planning to vote on the bill this week. Rather than strengthening our Democracy, the SAVE America Act will create new barriers to voter registration and voting that will silence the voice of millions of Americans. Instead of making elections inclusive, accessible, fair, and safe, this bill will impose unnecessary barriers, drain tax payer resources, and diminish the American voting population.
The SAVE America Act would:
- Implement a national voter ID requirement that would disproportionately impact low-income individuals, seniors, people with disabilities, and rural residents.
- Create a poll tax by requiring documentation such as passports or birth certificates to prove citizenship.
- Eliminate vote by mail voter registration, disrupt online voter registration, and criminalize poll workers.
- Mandate state voter purges that risk preventing eligible American voters from exercising their constitutional right.
- Pressure states to submit sensitive voter registration lists to DHS.
If enacted, this bill would disproportionately disenfranchise military families, women, low-income voters, people living in rural and remote areas, survivors of natural disasters, students, older adults, and Tribal communities – all groups that already face added obstacles to voting.
Months before the midterm elections Congress is looking to change our voting laws. Call the U.S. Senate today and urge your senators to protect your voting right by voting “NO” on the Save America Act.
