South Asian Council for Social Services

Founded in 2000, South Asian Council for Social Services [SACSS] has been a mainstay – a beacon of support and hope – to Queens’ diverse immigrant communities for over two decades.

SACSS’ holistic, “one stop” approach assesses and assists clients individually and personally with their unmet needs such as hunger relief, healthcare access and education, connection to benefits, senior support, mental health counseling, legal clinics, job preparedness and case management.

Our culturally competent staff speaks 19 different language and they provide one-on one assistance to each client to identify underlying issues that may not initially present. In this way, we avoid addressing the presenting needs of our clients in silos. As of November 2023, SACSS has served more than 220,000 individuals this year.

Despite the words “South Asian” in our name, SACSS serves the diversity of Queens – including an estimated 17,700 individuals from the Latinx community annually. This includes many migrant families for who just recently arrived in NYC from the southern border. To address the needs of our Latinx clients in an affirming way, SACSS has a full-time Spanish speaking staff person who not only speaks the language but also understands the culture.
