Latino Equality Alliance

Latino Equality Alliance (LEA) is a Latinx LGBTQ nonprofit based in Boyle Heights. Our mission is to advocate for the safety, equity and wellness of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer communities in Boyle Heights, east and southeast Los Angeles and the surrounding gateway cities.
LEA was founded in January 2009 by a group of Latinx LGBTQ activists. After campaigning against the anti-marriage equality ballot initiative, Proposition 8, community members discovered a need for queer-centric resources catered specifically for the Latinx communities in east and southeast Los Angeles. For over 12 years, LEA has served the community through leadership development, community organizing, youth empowerment, family acceptance and resource navigation. Our current projects, Mind Over Matter, Queer and Trans Connect (QT Connect) and Rainbow Education Coalition-Los Angeles (REC-LA), focus on building power through campaign building in order to create systemic change that fosters safe schools, neighborhoods and homes for LGBTQ youth and families.
