Supreme Court Side Steps Their Responsibility to Defend and Uphold the U.S. Constitution
New York, NY – Earlier today, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) issued a ruling in Trump et al., v Casa et al. that significantly limits the judiciary’s power to defend and uphold the U.S. Constitution. In response, Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation, issued the following response:
“Today’s decision by the Supreme Court will severely limit the power of the judiciary and has deeply concerning implications for the separation of powers, a principle that serves as the bedrock of our Constitution. The Supreme Court of the United States’ decision to sidestep their responsibility to defend both the rule of law and the Constitution will lead to both chaos and the erosion of the public’s trust in the courts and their ability to safeguard our rights.
To our community, we want to make sure that one thing is clear: every person born in the United States is a U.S. citizen. That remains the law of the land and is enshrined in the 14th Amendment of our Constitution. Hispanic Federation will continue to be a source of verified information for our community as we continue to fight alongside our sister organizations for a future where our rights are protected and the promises of the Constitution are upheld.”
