New York, NY – Last night, President Trump used a primetime address to the nation to once again relitigate his 2020 election loss, this time under the guise of newly declassified “findings.” Instead of addressing the issues facing American families today, the President chose to resurrect long-debunked claims already reviewed and dismissed by intelligence agencies under both his own administration and those of his predecessors. Below is a statement from Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation:
“Free and fair elections aren’t just a democratic ideal, they are the bedrock of American democracy. Trust in fair elections is what brings people to the polls along with the understanding that their vote counts and will shape the decisions that govern their daily lives. Unfortunately, the Trump administration continues to sow distrust and undermine the independent institutions in charge of safeguarding our elections.
Manipulating the electoral process for political gain is repugnant. Every unfounded attack on our elections erodes public trust and hands ammunition to those who want to make it harder for Americans to be heard at the ballot box. The baseless claims of election deniers are now being used to advance the SAVE America Act, legislation that only serves to obstruct voter’s abilities to participate in elections, particularly Latino, women, rural and low-income voters.
Now, more than ever, local elected officials must be vigilant against electoral meddling, and Congress must reject the SAVE America Act, which would only build new barriers to voter participation in future elections.
Hispanic Federation calls on leaders at every level to preserve and defend the right of every eligible voter to be heard.”
