Hispanic Federation to Provide $1.4 million to address gaps left by cuts to SNAP benefits and ongoing food insecurity during the Holiday Season

This distribution is a part of HF’s $3 million allocation in emergency food aid to 75,000 families in New York State in 2025

NEW YORK, NY – Over the past 40 days, SNAP beneficiaries have dealt with the ups and downs of a program that could lose funding at any moment. While these developments are concerning for the wellbeing of families across the nation, food insecurity has been on the rise throughout recent years – especially in Latino households. To help alleviate the uncertainty that food insecurity brings during the holiday season, Hispanic Federation is providing $1.4 million in food aid to more than 35,000 families across New York State.

This initiative is a part of Hispanic Federation’s 2025 hunger relief program, La Lucha Contra El Hambre (The Fight Against Hunger), which will allocate a total of $3 million in food assistance to feed 75,000 families in New York.

This effort addresses the urgent need as nearly three million people who rely on SNAP in New York State had their SNAP benefits suspended during the federal government shutdown. SNAP benefits in New York are being restored as the federal government reopens, however families in need continue to face mounting challenges while the cost of living continues to increase. Through La Lucha Contra El Hambre campaign, grocery bags of food are being distributed everywhere across the state, from Staten Island and The Bronx to Poughkeepsie and Albany.

“While we are relieved to see that people are regaining access to SNAP as the government re-opens, we also recognize that the restoration of SNAP funding is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to addressing the mounting food insecurity challenges that people face. While living in the richest country in the world, one out of five children in New York face hunger and that’s unacceptable. Hispanic Federation is thankful to community organizations for partnering with us to provide families across New York with the resources they need to feed their families this holiday season,” said Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation.

Distribution events are scheduled throughout November and December at partner organizations statewide. Families seeking food assistance can call 1-866-HF-AYUDA (1-866-432-9832) for distribution locations, eligibility information, and assistance hours.
