Hispanic Federation: New York State is Taking a Bold Step Towards Protecting Vaccine Access for New Yorkers
New York, NY – Today, Governor Kathy Hochul, New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie announced the introduction of legislation to protect vaccine access for New Yorkers. Below is a statement from Frankie Miranda, President and CEO regarding the legislation.
“Vaccines save lives and by expanding access to life-saving vaccines, we can ensure that all New Yorkers, especially immunocompromised individuals, can continue to live, work, and travel safely in New York without fear. During the pandemic, we saw the harm that was caused when access to vaccines was limited, and this was particularly true for the Latino community, many of whom did not have the option to stay home and avoid exposure.
We applaud the leadership of Governor Hochul, Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins, and Assembly Speaker Heastie for supporting legislation to address the coverage gaps resulting from the Federal government’s failure to act. If this legislation were to move forward, then New York would be a part of the growing consensus that states must step in to counter the assault on vaccines. The legislation is a critical step forward in making sure that vaccines remain readily available and affordable as we continue to work with our trusted partners to make sure everyone is informed about the importance of vaccines in our workplaces, schools, and neighborhoods.”
