New York, NY – Yesterday, as families gathered for Hispanic Federation’s People’s Hearing on Immigration Enforcement in New York to testify about the terror ICE has unleashed on our communities, ICE agents surrounded a man in his car in Marble Hill, with a five-year-old child inside, and opened fire. Below is a statement from Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation.
“As Hispanic Federation was wrapping up its People’s Hearing in New York, where those directly impacted by ICE shared stories about the terror that President Trump’s immigration enforcement is causing to our communities, ICE shot a man in his car while his five-year old son was sitting in the back seat. Firing into a vehicle with a child in it is not law enforcement. It is reckless, indefensible, and a danger to everyone.
ICE has been causing absolute terror within communities across the country, acting with an appalling disregard for human life. Since this administration took office, rogue agents have shot at least 24 people, and the administration has stayed silent and taken zero action.
Enough is Enough. Hispanic Federation demands ICE stop all enforcement operations in our communities. We also call for an independent investigation into this shooting, and into every instance excessive force and misconduct by federal agents. There must be an end to sweeping neighborhood operations that instill fear, undermine trust, terrorize families, and tear communities apart.”
