CHICAGO, IL—To mark its one-year anniversary of operating in the Midwest, Hispanic Federation (HF), the nation’s premier Latino non-profit membership organization, announced that it has selected nine new, local organizations to become official members of HF. As members of HF, organizations have the opportunity to access benefits such as operating support grants, capacity-building programs, and more to supercharge their efforts that support countless Latinos in the Midwest. The nine new members lead work that empowers Latinos through initiatives that focus on the areas of education, civic engagement, hunger relief, immigration, and more.

The announcement was made at a one-year anniversary event hosted at HF’s Chicago offices with nonprofit, corporate, and government partners. At the event, Secretary of the Illinois Department of Human Services Dulce Quintero delivered the keynote address, highlighting the important role Latino-serving nonprofits play in the community.

Since establishing a presence in the Midwest in 2022, with an office in Chicago, Illinois, Hispanic Federation has implemented and led many programs that empower Latinos across the area. In the last year alone, HF and its partners launched the largest Get Out The Vote campaign in Chicago’s history, conducted a thorough poll highlighting the needs of Latinos ahead of a crucial election, expanded CREAR Futuros – a peer mentorship program for students – to the University of Illinois Chicago, launched programs to bridge the digital divide in Cicero, Illinois, and more. Partnering with the newly announced members, HF plans to increase the impact of these programs and continue addressing the needs of the local Latino community.

“A year after we formally established a presence in the Midwest, I’m proud of the quick progress our team and partners have made to uplift countless Latinos through culturally and linguistically competent programming. Together, we’re registering Latino voters, strengthening the future of Latino students, bridging the digital divide, and so much more. With our new members, we’re going to deepen this work and empower even more Latinos who call the Midwest home. Congratulations to our new members; I look forward to all the work we’ll accomplish together,” said Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation.

New HF Members Include:

  1. The Puerto Rican Cultural Center
  2. Mano a Mano Family Resource Center
  3. The Miracle Center
  4. Gads Hill Center
  5. Mujeres Latinas en Acción
  6. Corazon Community Services
  7. Association of Latinos/as/xs Motivating Action (ALMA)
  8. Instituto del Progreso Latino
  9. Farmworker and Landscape Advocacy Project (FLAP)

Sian I. Du’Prey, Midwest Director for Programs said, “Our team has focused on the needs of HF’s new members and longtime partners, providing students the opportunity to go outside of their neighborhoods to get a taste of the working world, bringing computer labs and digitals skilling where technology is lacking, and increasing capacity for the organizations who were there for us during the pandemic and long before. We are bringing resources directly to those most impacted while supporting nonprofit organizations to advance their specific mission.”

“Since opening our office last October, HF has hit the ground running by implementing programs, participating in advocacy campaigns, and supporting capacity-building efforts amongst our Latino nonprofits. I’m thrilled to welcome our new HF member organizations so we can collaborate with them and continue the work with our Latino nonprofits and ensure that our efforts are rooted in community,” said Roberto Valdez, Jr., Hispanic Federation’s Midwest Director for Policy.

In 2010, Latinos represented 15.8 percent of the Illinois population. In 2020, that percentage rose to 18.2. In Chicago alone, Latinos represent 30 percent of the total population. With Hispanic Federation’s expanded footprint, the organization has supported this growing community in Chicago and throughout the Midwest, especially as states continue to navigate and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, which disproportionately affected Latinos.
