Building and Strengthening our Network
Nothing is more important to the Hispanic Federation than growing and strengthening its network of Latino nonprofits. That’s why we spent 2018, increasing our investments in and growing the number of affiliate agencies serving our community.
In 2018, Hispanic Federation grew by six organizations. Today, our network numbers 110 agencies, an all-time high, reflecting the geographic and programmatic diversity that characterizes our communities. “The fact is that the needs in our communities are complex,” said Hispanic Federation President José Calderón. “We know that the needs stretch from education to health care, housing to policy. Our network of agencies reflect that reality and are on the front lines of addressing these community needs.”
Supporting groups through our Latino CORE Initiative has always been important to Hispanic Federation. This year, we awarded more than $4.2 million in grants to Latino groups across our national footprint. That’s the single largest grant distribution in the agencies history. We continue to make grants that many other funders will not. Whether its support for technical assistance or an emergency capital expenditure, the Latino CORE Initiative is one of the nation’s most innovative Latino-run philanthropies.
Of course, the Latino CORE Initiative depends on the support of the Hispanic Federation’s donors. Each year, the proceeds of our annual gala event in New York City go directly to fund our signature grant-making program. In 2018, we raised $2.3 million at the event, a historic achievement.
