Building Alliances and Expanding our Network

Shaping a brighter future for the Latino community. That’s been our goal for more than 25 years now! As our community has grown in size and needs, HF has challenged itself to serve more local neighborhoods and cities – helping to sustain a vital safety net, inspire new leadership and lift up an even greater number of Latino children and families. It takes great collaborations and allies to make this growth possible. One of Hispanic Federation’s goals for 2016 has been to grow. Not just in terms of budget to help support our member agencies but in terms of geographic scope and alliances. That has meant reaching out to new partners and collaborating with Latino leaders outside of the nonprofit world to tackle issues of importance to our community. Special people like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jennifer Lopez and America Ferrera, and many others who are committed to advancing our work and mission.

Hispanic Federation Annual Gala: In April, Hispanic Federation took over the American Museum of Natural History in New York City to celebrate its Annual Gala and honor those whose actions are inspiring a powerful and unprecedented Latino movement, including actress and social activist America Ferrera. This year’s Gala was our most successful ever, thanks to more than 65 institutional partners and countless individual donors, HF raised more than $1.6 million to support its assistance and work with its network of 100 Latino nonprofits. The funds raised at our benefit gala are powering social movements that are helping to uplift and empower our community.

Your Shot At Hamilton: Last month, we received some exciting news. Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda would be giving away two tickets to see Hamilton and hang-out backstage after the show—all you had to do to win was donate to the Hispanic Federation. But that wasn’t all. The stakes were raised when Miranda announced his departure from the show on July 9th, and with that the tickets he was giving away through Prizeo were for his last performance! To take things up a notch one last time, he generously announced there would be two winners in this sweepstakes — that’s four tickets in total! We are in awe that this effort by Lin helped raise over $1 million dollars in support of our work. Thank you, Lin for your amazing talents and even bigger heart! You’re inspiring us and empowering our community to reach greater heights!

Proyecto Somos Orlando: In the aftermath of the Pulse Nightclub massacre in Orlando, Hispanic Federation launched Proyecto Somos Orlando as a way to raise resources for the city’s Latino nonprofit network as the dealt with the aftermath of the attack. But Proyecto Somos Orlando is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the intersections between LGBT and Latino communities in Orlando and the importance of fighting for equality and against violence. This message resonated with superstars Jennifer López and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who together recorded “Love Makes the World Go Round,” a benefit single whose proceeds go to support Hispanic Federation’s Proyecto Somos Orlando.
