Gran Varones is a digital storytelling project that amplifies history, culture, and HIV destigmatization through a Black Latinx Queer Lens. At the start, the goal of Gran Varones was to give GBTQ Latinx men a digital space to build community on their own terms by sharing stories. Over the last four years, GV has grown into a platform that provides not only space but resources, sexual health information, and a network for these men. We have expanded our storytelling network by coordinating two impactful cohorts of storytelling fellows living with HIV. This upcoming year, we desire to fuel new ways to reach and engage communities in HIV prevention, treatment, and care.
The Gran Varones uses cultural organizing to challenge and address HIV stigma, racism, transphobia, and homophobia across the country. We have documented over 250 stories in 19 states and Puerto Rico in just four years and with no funding.
