This week, we mark the peaceful transition of power with the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump. But respect for the important tradition of handing power from one President to another does not mean that citizens cannot register their concerns about the incoming administration. Given the tenor of the presidential campaign and concerns about the impact of policies proposed by Mr. Trump and his Cabinet, Hispanic Federation has organized three buses to travel to Washington this coming Saturday to take part in the Women’s March on Washington.
The Women’s March brings together activists from throughout the United States to stand with marginalized groups. “In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us,” the organizers of the Women’s March have said, “we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new government on their first day in office, and to the world that women's rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.”
“Hispanic Federation walks in solidarity with the hundreds of thousands of women, partners and children of all ages who together make up the Women’s March on Washington,” said Jose Calderon, President of the Hispanic Federation. “We do so to affirm that women's rights are truly human rights. Faced with insults, demonization and threats, it is more important than ever that Latinas and their allies say ¡Presente!, that we forcefully defend all people and their civil rights in the weeks and months to come, especially the most vulnerable and marginalized amongst us."
