Hispanic Federation Launches Federal Policy Series to Elevate Impact of Recent National Policies on Latino Community

Type(s): Press Release

The Federal Policy Series will feature different topics throughout the year and was developed in partnership with Hispanic Federation’s network of nonprofit organizations

Washington, DC – From mass deportations to tightening economic conditions, the Latino community is heavily impacted by federal policies, but the perspectives of Latinos are often missing from national discourse. Today, Hispanic Federation launched its Federal Policy Series to provide an opportunity for decision-makers across the federal landscape to hear directly from the Latino community regarding their values and policy priorities. The Federal Policy Series will focus on various issues important to Latinos across the United States, with standalone chapters published throughout the summer, each addressing a specific challenge faced by the Latino community.

The chapter being published today focuses on immigration and examines how immigration policies are exacerbating the already flawed immigration system in the United States. From immigration asylum processes to the perils of militarized mass deportations, the chapter on immigration shines a light on policies that threaten the well-being and safety of neighborhoods across the nation. Conversely, it illustrates several key paths forward by which the immigration system may be improved to help the United States meet the challenges of the 21st century. The recommendations advanced in each issue were developed in partnership with participants of Hispanic Federation’s Encuentro Nacional held in Washington, D.C., from March 28-30, 2025. During the Encuentro Nacional, more than 130 Latino-serving nonprofits from across the United States discussed their preferred policy solutions to the issues they were seeing on the ground.

“Hispanic Federation’s Federal Policy Series provides a guide for decision-makers and advocates to intentionally bring Latinos into the narrative while taking action on behalf of our communities. We are proud to have developed these proposals in partnership with Latino-led and Latino-serving nonprofits across the United States who are on the front lines assisting our community every day”, said Jessica Orozco Guttlein, Acting Co-President at Hispanic Federation. “Our policy team will continue to work closely with our network of member and partner agencies to impress upon federal lawmakers the need to act swiftly to protect and uplift the 62 million Latinos who call the US home.”
