Hispanic Federation Celebrates US District Court Ruling Defending Right to Birthright Citizenship

Type(s): Press Release

Washington, DC – Early today, US District Judge Joseph Laplante issued a nationwide block against President Donald Trump’s executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship.  The United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire leveled a new, class-certified injunction against the Administration, preventing it from denying citizenship to potentially millions of Americans. Jessica Orozco Guttlein, acting co-President of Hispanic Federation issued the following statement:

“On the heels of a Supreme Court decision that has outlined new tests for judicial protection, the scope of today’s injunction ensures that birthright citizenship remains the rule of law in this country for the time being.

Every person born in the United States is a U.S. citizen. That right is enshrined in the 14th Amendment of our Constitution and continues to stand as the law of the land – no executive order has the authority to curtail it.

As litigation surrounding this order proceeds through the courts, Hispanic Federation will continue to serve as a source of reliable, verified, and relevant information for our community. In turn, we will continue to stand with our sister organizations and families across the country to defend the rights and promises of the Constitution.
