Our Work in California
Since launching our California office in late 2024, we have expanded opportunity, strengthened community-based organizations, and advanced policies that reflect the needs of Latino communities across the state.
While our physical presence is new, our commitment spans nearly a decade. Since 2017, Hispanic Federation has invested nearly $5 million to strengthen California’s Latino nonprofit infrastructure and support a growing network of 55 Latino-led and Latino-serving organizations across the state.
Today, with a dedicated in-state presence led by California State Director German Cash, we are deepening partnerships, expanding support for nonprofits navigating increased demand and funding constraints, and driving more coordinated, high-impact programmatic and policy efforts across California and at the federal level.
Shaping California’s Latino Policy Agenda
Our work is grounded in partnership and driven by a shared vision for California’s future. Watch how we are working in coalition to shape a statewide Latino Policy Agenda centered on Health, Wealth, and Dignity.
Building Opportunity and Advancing Equity Across California
California is home to one of the largest and most influential Latino populations in the country, yet too many communities continue to face barriers to economic mobility, access to health care, quality education, and stable housing. Rising costs of living, climate impacts, and rapid technological change are reshaping opportunity and widening inequities at a critical moment for the state.
At the same time, California plays a defining role in shaping national policy and economic trends. Ensuring that Latino communities are fully included in that future is essential not only to equity, but to the state’s long-term prosperity.
While our California office launched in 2024, our commitment spans nearly a decade. Since 2017, Hispanic Federation has invested nearly $5 million to strengthen Latino-led and Latino-serving organizations across the state, including $1.8 million in 2025 alone.
Today, we are building on that foundation to expand our reach and deepen impact. We support a network of more than 50 partner organizations across Los Angeles, the Central Valley, Central Coast, Bay Area, Inland Empire, Imperial Valley, and San Diego, including trusted community institutions such as Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights Los Angeles, Dolores Huerta Foundation, New Economics for Women, Centro Legal de la Raza, and Mission Economic Development Agency, among others.
Together with our partners, we are strengthening California’s Latino nonprofit infrastructure and scaling investments, partnerships, and programs to drive measurable, statewide impact.
California Programs in Action
Our work in California combines direct investment, program delivery, and partnership to expand opportunity and strengthen communities.
CREAR Futuros
CREAR Futuros is a free peer-mentorship program that recruits Latinx students in college to mentor, guide, and support younger students. In California, CREAR Futuros has partnered with California State University, Los Angeles, and is currently looking to expand this program to other public universities and community colleges across the state.
Latino Digital Accelerator
Hispanic Federation and Google.org collaborated to create the Latino Digital Accelerator, combining HF’s mission of strengthening Latino nonprofits that offer digital skilling and workforce development with Google.org’s deep commitment to closing the digital divide.
Por Nosotros
Por Nosotros equips frontline nonprofit staff with the knowledge and tools to improve their mental and physical health, strengthen resilience, and adopt healthier lifestyles. Through trusted community-based partners, the program helps frontline workers manage challenges more effectively and improve overall wellbeing.
La Voz de Mi Gente: Civic Engagement
Through La Voz de Mi Gente, HF’s culturally and linguistically competent civic engagement campaign, our team in California keeps communities civically informed and registers and mobilizes eligible voters throughout the state.
Nonprofit Grantmaking and Philanthropy
HF is a leading grantmaker for nonprofits across the country, having provided more than $125 million since 1990 to support our network of more than 800 nonprofit members and partners. This grantmaking plays a crucial role in establishing programs that uplift Latino families while also supporting the operational needs of grassroots organizations serving their communities.
Nonprofit Organizational Development
Our team in California helps local nonprofit organizations strengthen their operations through workshops and administrative support. Capacity building efforts focus on governance, financial management, strategic planning, fundraising, and program evaluation.
Our Vision for California
We believe in a California where every community has the resources, opportunities, and voice needed to thrive.
Building on nearly a decade of investment in California’s Latino nonprofit ecosystem, we are now positioned to scale our impact by expanding partnerships, increasing investments, and strengthening the infrastructure that supports Latino communities statewide.
As we grow, we are prioritizing expansion in regions that have historically been underinvested, including the Central Valley, Central Coast, Inland Empire, and Imperial Valley, while continuing to deepen our presence across the state.
Looking ahead, we are focused on:
Expanding our statewide network of community-based partners
Increasing multi-year investments in Latino-led and Latino-serving organizations
Scaling programs that drive educational, economic, and health outcomes
Strengthening rapid response capacity for communities impacted by immigration enforcement and climate-related emergencies
Growing workforce pathways, digital inclusion efforts, and student success initiatives
Advancing a bold, community-informed policy agenda that shapes California’s future
By aligning investment, partnership, and policy, we are building the conditions for lasting, statewide change.
We invite funders, partners, and community leaders to join us in scaling this work and expanding opportunity for Latino communities across California.
