Hispanic Federation President and CEO Frankie Miranda issued the following statement regarding the signing of Senate Bills 3 and 4 in Texas:

“Hispanic Federation strongly condemns Governor Abbott’s decision to sign Senate Bills 3 and 4 into law. These anti-migrant measures bypass the protections afforded to migrants and asylum seekers detailed in the Constitution and international law. Additionally, deputizing the police to enforce immigration law is a public-safety threat. Victims will only fear going to the police and weaken community trust in law enforcement. The Governor and the State Legislature should be ashamed for passing these laws that criminalize, dehumanize, and instill fear in families and individuals who want nothing more than to escape civil strife, violence, and other horrors in their own countries. These bills undermine our country’s government, democracy and, most of all, our safety. If these measures are allowed, it will set a precedent that will harm marginalized communities across our nation in every way. Our government, advocates, and community members must join together to fight back on this law. Hispanic Federation will do everything it can to continue fighting on behalf of and supporting migrant families and individuals in Texas and across the United States.”
