NEW YORK– The United States Supreme Court today released its decision in Moore v. Harper, holding that a state’s judicial branch can review challenges to a state’s electoral maps. Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation, issued the following statement in response:

“The decision in Moore v. Harper is incredibly important to communities of color across the nation. At a time when deliberate efforts are being made to dilute our political power, this decision shows the importance of our system of checks and balances to protect democracy. Today, the United States Supreme Court preserved that system of checks and balances by holding that judicial branches can review challenges to state laws that regulate federal elections and electoral maps. Allowing communities of color and other marginalized people to fight unjust laws that affect our democracy in court is one the most important tools we have to limit the disproportionate effects of political divisiveness in this country. We applaud the Supreme Court’s decision, and we will not stop fighting until the right to vote and fair representation are protected for everyone.”

Since 2016, Hispanic Federation has registered more than 160,000 Latino voters across the United States. In 2022, the Federation formally launched La Voz de Mi Gente, a culturally and linguistically competent campaign which seeks to register, mobilize, and empower Latino voters throughout the nation.
