Help Latino families

Last year, we received a phone call about a family in Ohio who fled Honduras to seek asylum and a better future in the U.S. They ended up in an abandoned house — no heat, no utilities — with little more than the warm-weather clothes on their backs, even as the temperature plunged for winter.

We knew we had to help. With the support of our donor family, we were able to work with HOLA Ohio, our partner organization, to provide immediate assistance in time for the holidays.

Together, we helped the family move into a temporary hotel. We also provided food and groceries, cash assistance, gift cards for necessities, and holiday gifts. When the family of four needed support to navigate the complex process of signing a lease, we were by their side to ensure they were able to secure long-term housing as well as the basic things so many of us take for granted – clean bedding, kitchen utensils, household essentials and so much more. Most importantly, we supported them with their asylum case, which would allow them to call our country home without fear of deportation.
