ORLANDO, Fla. - The Hispanic Federation has created an initial $100,000 fund for community-based organizations providing goods and services to vulnerable communities affected by Hurricane Ian.

Supporting organizations doing work on the ground will ensure that families who have often been overlooked or passed over entirely in disaster aid can access some relief after this major catastrophe. Many vulnerable Floridians currently face a lack of adequate housing and need food, medicine, and electricity. These are older adults living alone, farmworkers in rural areas, and immigrants in fear of being deported.

"The impact of Hurricane Ian has been difficult for numerous communities, but especially those that were already suffering from food insecurity, housing, and lack of access to medical care. People are unable to access shelters due to lack of identification, seniors who have lost everything are in need of critical assistance, families are relying on others to help provide food to their children. Nonprofit organizations – pillars within their communities – are providing culturally and linguistically relevant care to these individuals with little to no resources. Hispanic Federation is proud to support these organizations in their unwavering service to all Floridians in need,” said Laudi Campo, Florida State Director of Hispanic Federation.

This fund will support Advance Senior Center, Bethel Ministries, Boricuas de Corazón Inc., Colectivo Arbol, Farmworkers Association, Hope Community Center, Iglesia Episcopal Jesús de Nazareth, Justice Shall be for All, Latin Community Health Advisors and RCMA. These entities are spearheading a strategic humanitarian effort that brings emergency aid in the form of food, stoves, flashlights, and other necessities throughout Orange, Osceola, Polk, Hillsborough, Collier, Volusia, and Broward counties – areas that are suffering from the effects of strong winds, flooding, and job closures.
