Hispanic Federation Announces Lariza Garzón as New Director of North Carolina and Mid-South Operations

Garzón will help lead Hispanic Federation’s work empowering Latino communities in North Carolina, where 1 in 9 residents are Latino

NEW YORK — Today the Hispanic Federation (HF) announced Lariza Garzón will be the new Director of North Carolina and Mid-South Operations. Lariza’s experience and ties to the local Latino community add incredible value to Hispanic Federation. As the nation's premier Latino nonprofit membership organization Ms. Garzón will continue to strengthen Hispanic Federation’s work in supporting and empowering local Latino communities across North Carolina and the Mid-South region.

“We are proud to welcome Lariza in her new role where she will increase our capacity to empower Latino communities that are still reeling from the effects of the pandemic,” said Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation. “As a leader who is deeply committed to uplifting the underserved, Lariza will work to ensure that Latino communities in North Carolina and the mid-south region have the resources they need to recover and thrive in a post-COVID world.”

“I’m excited and honored to join the Hispanic Federation to continue advancing our mission to serve and empower the Latino community. I look forward to working closely with communities across North Carolina and the mid-south to ensure Latinos are part of this country’s equitable recovery,” said Lariza Garzón.

Today, around 1 in 9 residents of North Carolina are Latino, and according to the latest 2020 Census data, Latinos saw the largest increase of any racial or ethnic group in the state, growing by more than 300,000 people. North Carolina's demographic changes over the last several years make it critical for Hispanic Federation to build capacity for programs and on-the-ground support that serve Latino communities in the state.

As Director of North Carolina and Mid-South operations, Lariza will lead membership, programmatic and advocacy initiatives to uplift and serve the region’s ever-growing Latino community.

Lariza Garzon was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia. After immigrating to the United States, she dedicated her life to supporting Latino immigrant and farmworker communities as they organize and struggle for justice and equitable access to resources.

Lariza has over 15 years of experience working with immigrant communities and advocacy campaigns, and extensive experience building coalitions with faith leaders and farmworker communities.

Prior to joining the Hispanic Federation, Lariza advocated for occupational protections of agricultural workers as the Executive Director of the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry in Dunn, North Carolina.

Lariza also has experience leading community education outreach efforts that support agricultural communities. As the Director of Community Education for the Farmworker Unit at Legal Aid of North Carolina, she implemented training programs for farmworkers and partner organizations.
