Op-Ed By Hon. Gillibrand and HF President Calderon PDF Print E-mail

It's Time for Congress to DREAM, and Get Serious About Comprehensive Immigration Reform
by US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and José Calderón

Over the past ten years there has been endless political posturing in Washington about our broken immigration system. Unfortunately, these debates have achieved nothing to produce critically needed comprehensive immigration reform.

Affordable Care Act PDF Print E-mail

HF Applauds Supreme Court Decision on Affordable Care Act

“The Hispanic Federation commends the Supreme Court for upholding President Obama’s Affordable Care Act.  This historic court decision ensures millions of Latino families will be able to access vital health coverage and preventative care regardless of pre-existing conditions.  Moving forward, people living with chronic illness will no longer face limits on coverage and women will have greater access to preventative services.  It is now time to move past the debate – the Affordable Care Act is law and has been upheld by the highest court in the land.  In the coming days and months, we must shift our attention to educating our communities on health coverage options and benefits, and working with states to ensure comprehensive health coverage is afforded to all Americans through the full and efficient implementation of this law,” stated José Calderón, President of the Hispanic Federation.

Statement by Jose Calderon, President of the Hispanic Federation, regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling on Arizona’s SB 1070 Immigration Law

"Today the Supreme Court struck down much of Arizona's anti-immigrant, racial-profiling law, known as SB 1070.  However, the Hispanic Federation is deeply disappointed by the Court’s decision to allow local police to check immigration status during stops.  By failing to act on this key provision, the Court has given a green light to racial profiling in Arizona.  The Hispanic Federation and our local and national partners will continue to fight to overturn all aspects of this dangerous law.  Today’s news reinforces the urgent need for Congress and the President to enact immigration reform that is effective and humane.
