HLI Celebrates Graduating Class of 2011
The Hispanic Federation is proud to announce the 2011 graduating class of the Hispanic Leadership Institute (HLI), a ten-week graduate-level non-profit management course implemented in partnership with Baruch College's School of Public Affairs. HLI is designed to help Latino non-profit managers develop and improve their management skills and work more effectively within the broader community. We are extremely proud that 15 of our nonprofit leaders, representing thirteen HF member agencies, graduated during the spring semester. Congratulations HLI class of 2011! Pathways to Academic Excellence
On Thursday, May 12th, twenty Latino families completed our month-long Pathways College Prep Series. The series provided parents of high school students with vital information on the college process and what they need to do to ensure their kids are college ready. The workshop series discussed GPA goals, the SAT, ACT and Regents exams, Advanced Placement and Honors courses, college visits, the college application, college financing, scholarship opportunities, college essay focus, and teacher recommendations. On Tuesday, May 17th, the International Day Against Homophobia, the Hispanic Federation and the LUCES coalition held a press conference to announce the launch of a public education campaign designed to bring attention to the social problems and public health threat posed by homophobia and anti-gay bias. The Federation Teaches Latinos the Importance of Tree Planting and Care in NYC Boroughs

As part of its “Green Your Neighborhood” Initiative, the Hispanic Federation (HF) in collaboration with the New York Restoration Project (NYRP) through MillionTreesNYC have joined forces to educate Hispanics on the environmental, health, and economic benefits of trees to New York City Latino neighborhoods. Additional support for this initiative is being generously provided by Toyota.

CUNY College Tour with Pathways Participants More than 75 Latino students and parents attended the Hispanic Federation’s college tour of The City College of New York on Saturday, December 18th. The tour provided attendees with a first-time view of what university life is like in one of our city’s top campuses. These college tours are an integral part of our Pathways to Academic Excellence - College Prep series. Designed to inform Latino parents about the college process and empower them to help their children enroll in higher education, Pathways has served more than 350 families since its launch in 2008.
