On Wednesday, July 13 the excitement was contagious at the Hispanic Federation’s 2nd Board Dating Event @ El Museo del Barrio in New York City. With the generous support of Wells Fargo, the Federation played matchmaker for over 100 Latino corporate professionals looking for a “first love” volunteer board experience with an HF member agency.
A “Top 10 responsibilities of a nonprofit board member” presentation gave the nuts and bolts of board service. It was followed by a “speed dating” layout that challenged participants and executive directors alike with the opportunity to introduce themselves in just 2 minutes. Corporate professionals promoted their talents and resources to boards while agencies highlighted their missions and why they were the best choice. The 21 participating member agencies were excited about the possibility of finding new board members. Participants left the event feeling they have taken important first steps towards making a difference in our communities.
Participating nonprofits included:
ACCION USA, Alianza Dominicana, Audubon Partnership for Economic Development, Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education, Coalition for Hispanic Family Services, Community Association for Progressive Dominicans (ACDP), Davidson Community Center, El Museo del Barrio, Hispanic AIDS Forum (HAF), Hispanic Resource Center of Larchmont and Mamaroneck, Institute Puerto Rican Hispanic Elderly (IPRHE) , Latino Commission on AIDS (LCOA), National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, New York Council on Adoptable Children (COAC) Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA), Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, Repertorio Español, Society of the Educational Arts Inc.
