HF and Univision Team-Up in a College Prep Community Forum For Latino families – many of which don’t count on a college family track record and face language barriers - the college preparation experience can be quite daunting. The Federation is working in multiple ways to address this ongoing concern. One of the more exciting initiatives is Univision’s educational campaign, Es el Momento, which the Federation continues to actively support.
On Wednesday, October 19, 2011, the Federation worked with Univision and The City University of New York (CUNY) to present a College Prep Community Forum for Latino parents at Gregorio Luperon High School in Washington Heights, NYC. Over 200 Latino parents attended and were trained on how to support their children’s college readiness and were provided with the resources needed to simplify the college admissions and financing process. Both students and parents left inspired to make higher education part of their lives journey. Through this and other initiatives we hope to significantly increase the number of Latino students who enroll and graduate from college.
In addition to the forum, parents were invited to join HF at its next Pathways to Academic Excellence workshop series, scheduled for December 1st, 8th, and 15th, from 6pm-8pm. For the past 3 years, the Pathways initiative has provided Latino parents with critical information and resources to support their college-bound child.
