Hispanic Federation Comments on Proposed "Public Charge" Rule Change

Since the beginning of this year, we have seen our communities negatively affected by misinformation surrounding the Trump administration’s proposed public charge rule. On October 10, 2018, the Trump administration published its long-feared "public charge proposal in the federal register. The public comment period for this rule ended on Dec. 10, 2018, and Hispanic Federation joined hundreds of thousands of people and organizations who submitted comments in opposition to this most cruel of rule changes.

Stop Family Detention

Hispanic Federation today joined many other civil rights organizations in submitting comments to the Department of Homeland Security outlining our opposition to the Trump’s Administration’s proposed rule that would remove long-standing protections for immigrant children. The regulation proposed would affect what is known as the Flores Settlement, and it would allow the federal government to detain immigrant children indefinitely. They would be stripped of any existing legal protections and the level of care in these immigration jails would significantly reduced.
