Poorly Targeted Tax Cuts Not a Response to COVID-19 Emergency

Hispanic Federation has joined 60 organizations in urging for an aggressive response to the economic and societal impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak, but caution against allowing this national emergency to be used to demand tax cuts that will be poorly targeted, lack the biggest bang-for-the-buck, and favor those families that have the most resources to weather the crisis.

Voting Rights Coalition Letter: Protect Voting Rights and Public Safety in Response to COVID-19

Hispanic Federation joined The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights’ Voting Rights Task Force to urge Congress and all state elections officials to adopt and fund a number of key policies to ensure both the public’s safety and the orderly conduct of the 2020 primary and general elections in light of the current threat posed by COVID-19.

Cut the FY 2021 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Bills

Hispanic Federation joined United We Dream and more than 200 national, state, and local organizations in urging Congress dramatically cut the budget of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to include measures that prevent the administration from exceeding the amounts appropriated by Congress, and preclude the use of funds for programs that unlawfully put asylum-seekers fleeing violence and persecution in harm’s way. It is time to defund hate.

Hispanic Federation is proud to join the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans and over 260 civil rights organizations in calling upon House and Senate leadership to denounce anti-Asian racism around COVID-19. As cases of COVID-19 continue to increase in the U.S., anti-Asian racist incidents towards Asian American families and businesses. Our country needs to be united during a pandemic.

Asylum Seekers in Remain in Mexico / “Migrant Protection Protocols” Policy

Hispanic Federation is proud to join over 150 community, faith based, human rights, legal and refugee assistance orgs to urge DHS to end the “Migrant Protection Protocols” (“MPP”), and allow asylum seekers to pursue refugee protection safely in the U.S. as required by U.S. law and treaties. We all stand ready to provide assistance to asylum seekers in the United States.

S​upport For​ F​unding of​ S​tatewide​ U​niversal R​epresentation P​rogram in M​aryland

Hispanic Federation joined CASA and 42 other Maryland organizations in calling members of Maryland General Assembly to fund a statewide universal representation program for Maryland through the FY 2021 budget. Under a universal representation program, Maryland would fund legal representation in civil immigration court for detained Maryland residents who are in deportation proceedings and cannot otherwise afford representation. The program would also provide critically needed wraparound support services for these individuals and their families.

Immigrant women need the HEAL for Immigrant Women and Families Act to access crucial and comprehensive health care that is central to their agency and their lives, their families, and their communities.
